President John Dramani Mahama has announced that preliminary work is underway for the construction of a brand-new Accra-Kumasi Expressway—an ambitious infrastructure project poised to revolutionize travel and trade between Ghana’s two major cities.

During a meeting with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Jubilee House, President Mahama revealed that feasibility studies and design work for the expressway are about to commence.

He confirmed that sod-cutting for the project is scheduled for early next year, under the flagship Big Push Infrastructure Programme.

“I am happy to report to you that we will soon undertake a feasibility study and design of the new Accra-Kumasi expressway,” Mahama stated. “We hope to be able to cut the sod early next year for work on this transformational project to commence.”

The expressway is expected to dramatically reduce travel time between Accra and Kumasi, improve road safety, and drive economic growth along the corridor.

It’s a critical part of the government’s renewed focus on large-scale infrastructure investments aimed at modernizing Ghana’s transportation network and fostering regional development.
