Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, has committed to spearheading the creation of a clear and comprehensive presidential travel policy.
The policy aims to regulate official trips by the President, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the use of state resources.
During his vetting by the Appointments Committee, Ablakwa, a vocal critic of the previous administration’s presidential travel expenses, highlighted the need for a structured framework.
He emphasized that the lack of clear guidelines has led to inefficiencies and controversies, making it essential for the country to establish firm regulations.
Drawing parallels with international practices, Ablakwa noted that in the United States, when the President uses the presidential jet for private travel, they are required to reimburse the state.
He stressed that such a policy would bring much-needed clarity to Ghana’s travel expenditures.
