Parliament has summoned the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to appear on Friday, February 28, 2025, to address concerns surrounding the deportation of Ghanaians from the United States.
Lawmakers are calling on the government to provide support for the deportees and implement policies to regulate migration.
The motion was initiated by Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, who voiced concerns over the harsh treatment of Ghanaians in U.S. detention centers.
Speaking in Parliament on February 21, he highlighted the inhumane conditions deportees endure before their forced removal and called for the establishment of integration centers to assist their reintegration into Ghanaian society.
He stressed the need for structured reintegration programs, including job placement initiatives, to help those who have spent most of their lives in the U.S. adapt successfully.
