President John Dramani Mahama has attributed his strengthened faith in Christ to the spiritual mentorship of Reverend Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church.
Speaking at the funeral of Madam Deborah Wengam, Rev. Wengam’s late mother, on Saturday, January 25, at the State House forecourt, Mahama revealed how both Rev. Wengam and Ernest Kwadwo Agyei, former Senior Pastor of the Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God, had profoundly impacted the spiritual journeys of himself and his wife, Lordina Mahama.
“Rev. Stephen Wengam and Ernest Kwadwo Agyei have been spiritual pillars for my wife, Lordina, and me. They are the reason for my deeper walk with Christ,” Mahama shared in his heartfelt tribute.
Madam Deborah Wengam, remembered as a devout Christian and a key figure in the women’s ministry of the Assemblies of God Church, was lauded for her discipline, selflessness, and influence on younger generations.
In his eulogy, Rev. Wengam reflected on his mother’s unwavering commitment to evangelism and the crucial support she offered during his early pastoral journey. “She stood by me when I began my ministry at a young age, ensuring I had all I needed to succeed,” he recounted.
The service drew a significant gathering of mourners, including clergy, dignitaries, and family, who celebrated Madam Wengam’s enduring legacy of faith, mentorship, and service. Her life continues to inspire generations with her devotion and impactful leadership.
