Fifty individuals suspected of involvement in the recent Nkwanta conflict were apprehended in Shiare, Oti Region, during an operation on the morning of Tuesday, January 21.
The suspects are scheduled for screening before legal proceedings begin.
DCOP Osman Abdul Razak, the National Security Coordinator, visited Nkwanta to assess the situation and hold peace talks with traditional leaders from the feuding factions.
Providing an update, Oti Regional Police Commander DCOP Alex Acquah detailed the toll of the renewed violence: six lives lost, ten people injured, and extensive property damage, including the destruction of twelve homes and a shop.
Addressing the broader issue, DCOP Abdul Razak highlighted persistent chieftaincy and land disputes in the country, calling for stronger collaboration among security agencies to tackle these challenges.
Chief of Army Staff Maj Gen Bismarck Kwasi Onwona praised the joint efforts of security personnel, emphasizing their critical role in restoring peace to the region.
