Reverend Ransford Obeng, General Overseer of the Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC) in Kumasi, has strongly denounced the violent clash between illegal miners and military personnel in Obuasi on Saturday, which resulted in nine deaths.
The incident occurred when miners reportedly breached a security fence at an abandoned AngloGold Ashanti concession and were confronted by guards.
Eight injured individuals were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where four remain in critical condition, while the other four have been discharged.
Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi on Tuesday 21/01/2025, Reverend Ransford Obeng emphasized the sanctity of life, stating, “God is the creator of life and the only one with the authority to take it.
Human beings are not permitted to end anyone’s life. We must act to preserve life at all costs.”
He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and called for adherence to the rule of law, urging citizens to remain law-abiding.
“We mourn with those who have lost loved ones, but let us uphold the laws of the land. Nobody is above the law, and we must refrain from taking justice into our own hands,” he added.
Reverend Ransford Obeng also appealed to political parties to refrain from post-election violence and encouraged Ghanaians to pray for President John Dramani Mahama and cooperate with his administration to ensure national peace and progress.
