The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA) has praised the bold initiative by Eric Opoku, Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, to ensure every Senior High School (SHS) cultivates a farm.

According to NCPTA, this idea is long overdue, harkening back to the success of the “Operation Feed Yourself” program, which played a crucial role in school feeding.

Gordon Kofi Raphael, NCPTA General Secretary, shared his thoughts on Lawson TV/Radio Ghana’s Se Sen Morning Show, emphasizing that the cultivation of farms in secondary schools is essential for the future of the agricultural sector.

He also highlighted the significance of the welfare of students, expressing confidence in Education Minister Designate Harruna Iddrisu’s experience in leading and understanding the needs of students.

However, Kofi Raphael called for careful planning and strategies to ensure that the farm initiative delivers value for money and does not encounter unnecessary challenges.

The NCPTA welcomes the idea but urges careful implementation.
