NPP constructed only 673km of new roads, not 11,000km – Agbodza

Minister-Designate for Roads reveals official records, clarifying the true extent of new road construction under the NPP government

Story Highlights
  • Official data reveals only 673km of new roads built, not the claimed 11,000km
  • Bulk of reported work involved re-gravelling and gravelling existing roads, totaling 6,185.90km
  • Agbodza emphasizes maintenance projects should not be mistaken for the construction of new roads

Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways, has disputed the former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s claim that his administration constructed 11,000 kilometers of new roads from 2017 to 2025.

During his vetting before the Appointments Committee on January 20, Agbodza presented official data showing that only 673 kilometers of new roads were actually built during that period, far less than the reported 11,000 kilometers.

He clarified that the majority of the reported roadworks were re-gravelling and gravelling projects, covering 6,185.90 kilometers, rather than the construction of entirely new roads. Agbodza stressed that while such maintenance efforts are vital, they should not be confused with the creation of new roads.
