  • Commits to resolving concerns over Sewua’s premature commissioning by the previous government

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Asanteman of his commitment to the swift completion and operationalisation of the Sewua Hospital in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking at the first Akwasidae celebration of the year at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, January 19, Mahama detailed plans to address the pressing challenges delaying the 250-bed facility’s readiness.

He highlighted the hospital’s critical role in alleviating the patient overload at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), a regional healthcare hub currently stretched beyond capacity.

Mahama noted, “The Sewua Hospital remains non-operational due to a lack of electricity, water, and access roads. My government will prioritise resolving these issues to open its doors and reduce the strain on Komfo Anokye.”

The completion of Sewua, he explained, would also enable vital renovations at KATH without disrupting its operations. Mahama’s remarks underscored the need for sustainable healthcare infrastructure and his resolve to turn the long-delayed project into a reality.

The hospital has been embroiled in political and contractual controversies, including criticism of its premature commissioning by the previous administration. These issues have fueled public concern over the government’s commitment to delivering fully functional healthcare projects.
