AngloGold Ashanti Schools have been temporarily closed due to escalating security concerns in Obuasi.
Recent violent clashes between small-scale miners and military personnel at the AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine have led to devastating consequences, including the burning of vehicles and property damage, and reports of eight fatalities.
In light of these incidents, the school management decided to close the schools for safety reasons.
The closure, announced on January 19, will last from Monday, January 20 to Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Schools are set to reopen on Wednesday, January 23, pending the restoration of peace.
The Obuasi community remains hopeful that a swift resolution will restore stability to the area and ensure the safety of all residents.
