President John Dramani Mahama has renewed the curfew hours imposed on the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region through an Executive Instrument.
Effective Monday, January 13, 2025, the new curfew hours will run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., replacing the previous dawn-to-dusk restrictions.
A total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons remains in place, with violators facing arrest and prosecution, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
The government has called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and residents to remain calm and pursue non-violent means to restore peace.
As part of efforts to address the escalating tensions in Bawku and Walewale, President Mahama will meet with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Sunday, January 19.
