Former MP and legal expert, Atta Akyea, has strongly criticized the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee initiated by President Mahama, calling it “unlawful” and “populist.”
In a January 18 interview, Akyea argued that the committee lacked legal standing and should not be tolerated.
He emphasized that the ORAL team does not function as a legitimate whistleblower platform, highlighting that whistleblowers are usually low-profile individuals who discreetly provide sensitive information to authorities for investigation.
He further condemned the committee’s public investigations, urging them to operate within the law and conduct their work privately, rather than showcasing it with cameras.
The Minority in Parliament has also rejected the ORAL committee’s actions, declaring it unconstitutional, a sentiment echoed by the opposition NPP and legal professionals.
Despite this, ORAL has reportedly received over 700 corruption-related reports, which it intends to forward for further legal action.
