Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, has reportedly been appointed as the new Majority Leader of the 9th Parliament of Ghana.
He will replace Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam, following Dr. Forson’s nomination by President John Dramani Mahama as Minister of Finance-designate.
This appointment comes after Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin had earlier predicted Ayariga’s elevation to Majority Leader due to Forson’s ministerial nomination.
On the floor of Parliament on Thursday, January 9, 2024, Afenyo-Markin also revealed that Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, MP for Cape Coast South, would assume the role of Deputy Majority Leader, succeeding Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, who is expected to be appointed Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
Additionally, Afenyo-Markin mentioned that Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, MP for South Dayi, would take on the position of Majority Chief Whip, replacing Kwame Governs Agbodza, who is also slated for a ministerial role.
He further stated that the Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, would be appointed Minister for Local Government and Decentralisation.
