The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has postponed its planned maintenance activity, known as pigging, to avoid potential power disruptions in Ghana.
Initially scheduled for January, the maintenance will now take place from February 3 to March 2, 2025. During this one-month period, gas supply to Ghana will be temporarily halted.
WAPCo issued a statement on January 15, emphasizing that the pigging exercise is a critical operation in line with industry best practices.
The company clarified that the delay is necessary to prevent a power crisis, as Ghana’s energy producers rely on a steady gas supply to operate their plants and generate electricity.
The government had reassured the public last week that measures would be taken to delay the exercise, ensuring the country’s power supply would not be disrupted.
With the maintenance now rescheduled, the feared power shortage has been averted, providing relief to the public.
