President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to meet the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on January 19 as part of his intensified efforts to mediate the protracted Bawku conflict in Ghana’s Upper East Region.
This visit follows Mahama’s earlier peace-building engagements on January 14, where he met with the Mamprugu overlord, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II, to appeal for patience and cooperation in resolving the decades-long crisis.
Reflecting on prior efforts, Mahama revealed insights from former President Akufo-Addo, acknowledging the roles played by Otumfuo, the late Yagbonwura, and others in the successful resolution of the Dagbon conflict. He hopes to draw from these experiences during his upcoming discussions with the Asantehene.
“I aim to continue the path of peace. Otumfuo has played a significant role in similar situations, and I believe his guidance will be instrumental. I will keep Naa Bohagu informed about any progress made,” Mahama assured.
This visit highlights the former President’s steadfast commitment to fostering peace and stability in Bawku through collaborative leadership.
