NAPO Expresses Frustration Over Ashanti Votes Debate

In an interview on Monday, January 13, 2025, in Accra, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh remarked, “I feel really, that I have to insult the person that Ashanti didn’t bring a vote. What does that mean?”
He emphasized that the entire country experienced a decline in voter turnout, stating, “The whole country, they didn’t vote. We lost 2.1 million votes.”
Dr. Opoku-Prempeh also highlighted the Ashanti Region’s voter participation, noting, “In Ashanti, 65% of the people turn up to vote, 65% of the people on the register, which is higher than the 64% of the general turnout.”
He cautioned against attributing electoral outcomes to specific regions or groups, asserting, “Let us not tribalize things like that.”
The 2024 general elections, held on December 7, 2024, resulted in a victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, who secured 57% of the vote.
The former Manhyia South MP emphasized the need for introspection within the NPP, suggesting that the party should “sit down, do our homework and come back.”
