  • The latest incident occurred less than a week after Akufo-Addo left office
  • The statue was erected to honor his efforts to improve healthcare and infrastructure in the Western Region

The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been completely vandalised for the second time.

The first act of damage occurred on December 16, 2024, when unidentified individuals targeted the statue’s leg, though no arrests were made and the motives remained unclear.

Authorities quickly repaired the statue, but now, less than a week after Akufo-Addo’s departure from office, the statue has been fully toppled.

Originally erected to honour the former president’s contributions to healthcare and infrastructure during his tenure, the statue was meant to symbolize his government’s efforts to enhance healthcare access in the Western Region. The damage to the statue has raised questions about the ongoing protection of such national symbols.
