President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to probe the spending on the National Cathedral Project, a major initiative launched by his successor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The project, aimed at creating a national Christian worship center, has faced numerous allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

Addressing a Christian National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Mahama raised concerns about the financial stewardship of the project, particularly in light of Ghana’s current economic challenges.

“CHRAJ has directed the government to audit the National Cathedral project and investigate any misuse of public funds. We will soon initiate this investigation,” Mahama announced.

He also questioned the project’s staggering cost, highlighting that the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, Nigeria, was built for just $30 million, in contrast to the $400 million price tag of the Ghanaian initiative.

This move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability regarding the controversial project.
