A catastrophic fire tore through the Techiman Central Market in the Bono East Region early Monday, January 13, reducing numerous shops to ashes and leaving traders and residents heartbroken.

Eyewitnesses said the flames spread rapidly due to the tightly packed shops and flammable materials within the market.

It took firefighters nearly three hours to contain the blaze and prevent it from engulfing nearby areas.

Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio, ACFO2 Rev. Naomi Adubea Sarpong, Bono East Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), confirmed the incident.

She revealed that the cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations underway.

This tragedy follows closely on the heels of another devastating fire on January 2, which ravaged Accra’s Kantamanto Market, leaving hundreds of traders in financial ruin.

The alarming frequency of market fires in Ghana has raised serious concerns among traders and authorities alike.
