Story Highlights
  • The Ministry of Youth and Sports is now the Ministry of Sports and Recreation
  • The youth sector is now a separate entity under the new Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment
  • The restructuring reduces the number of ministries from 30 to 23

In a move to streamline government operations, President John Mahama has officially rebranded the Ministry of Youth and Sports to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

This change, in line with Section 11 (3) of the Civil Service Act, 1993 (P.N.D.C. Law 327), separates the former combined sports and youth sectors into two distinct ministries.

The newly established Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment will focus solely on youth initiatives.

This shift is part of a broader government restructuring, which has reduced the number of ministries from 30 to 23.

In addition, President Mahama is expected to announce a new Sports Minister next week, with former Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuije emerging as a key contender for the position.
