Story Highlights

  • Urges MPs to stay focused on national progress for political success
  • Warns against excessive partisanship, which may limit political relevance over time

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called on newly elected Members of Parliament to place Ghana’s interests ahead of partisan politics.

During an orientation session in Accra on January 11, 2025, Bagbin stressed the importance of addressing the nation’s challenges rather than focusing on political party lines.

“I urge you all to stay focused and work diligently to tackle the issues facing our country. Ghana must always come first,” Bagbin said, encouraging MPs to refocus if they had lost sight of this priority.

He also pointed out that prioritizing the nation’s well-being leads to long-term political success. “Politicians who put Ghana first progress in their careers more than those overly focused on partisanship,” Bagbin noted, warning that excessive loyalty to a single political figure may limit one’s relevance once that leader is no longer in power.
