Woman Stabbed to Death by Boyfriend for Wearing Bum Shorts at Beach

A South African woman, Phindiswa Toshi Mpomposhe, was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend, Mkhuseli Ludidi, in a tragic incident that unfolded in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on New Year’s Day.
According to a statement from advocacy group Women For Change on January 9, 2025, the murder stemmed from a disagreement over Phindiswa’s choice of clothing.
The 24-year-old woman had changed into a pair of bum shorts, borrowed from her sister, for a beach outing with her boyfriend, sister, and friends.
Mkhuseli reportedly found the outfit too revealing, sparking an argument. Though the altercation appeared resolved as the group continued to celebrate, the situation escalated when they returned home.
After spending time apart, Phindiswa’s lifeless body was discovered later that day in Kuyasa, and Mkhuseli was found covered in blood at the Harare police station. Police arrested him after a brief chase, with two kitchen knives in his possession.
The couple, who had been together for eight months, had a history of physical abuse, with witnesses reporting that Phindiswa had long suffered in silence.
“This is a heart-wrenching loss of a beautiful soul,” the advocacy group mourned. “Fly high, Sister.”
