In a move to honor his campaign promises, President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to grant the Muslim community an additional holiday for the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

This initiative is part of his broader efforts to recognize the significant role Muslims play in national development.

The proposed change to the Holidays Act will allow Muslims to enjoy two full days of festivities during Eid-ul-Fitr, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

During the National Prayers and Thanksgiving service at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, 2025, Mahama reaffirmed his commitment, stating, “We promised to add one more holiday to Eid ul-Fitr. Once Parliament settles, we will amend the Holidays Act to include this extra day. So, after Ramadan, we will celebrate with two holidays this year.”
