Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to abstain from vandalizing or looting state properties, urging them to act responsibly and preserve the trust of Ghanaians.

Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, Mr. Mahama highlighted the importance of avoiding the pitfalls of the past. He warned against repeating the mistakes attributed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2017, which he said contributed to their loss of public confidence.

“I appeal to all our supporters engaging in illegal actions like looting goods and occupying government offices to stop. Let’s set a different standard to uphold the trust Ghanaians have placed in us. Many have pointed out that similar actions by the NPP in 2017 led to their rejection, and we must not emulate their errors,” he emphasized.

The NDC leader assured supporters that their grievances would be addressed through proper channels once the government is fully formed. He encouraged patience, revealing that ministers and other officials would be appointed within two weeks to handle concerns efficiently.

“Government is being structured, and soon ministers will be in place to address your concerns. Until then, I urge restraint and orderly conduct,” Mr. Mahama concluded, underscoring the need for discipline and unity.
