The Ninth Parliament’s first session has been temporarily halted until Tuesday, January 21, 2025, to allow the Appointments Committee to vet new ministerial nominees.

This break will also accommodate a four-day orientation for new legislators to acquaint themselves with parliamentary procedures.

Three nominees have already been referred to the Appointments Committee by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, after receiving the first batch of appointments from President John Dramani Mahama. The nominees are Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, John Abdulai Jinapor, and Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine for Finance, Energy, and Attorney-General respectively.

Justifying the adjournment, Majority Chief Whip Kwame Governs Agbodza explained that the House needed time to address the new nominations before the session continues. Minority MP Patrick Yaw Boamah confirmed that the House expects further nominations from the President and reassured members that the vetting process would proceed smoothly once all documents were received.
