A fatal police shooting occurred near 47th Avenue and Butler at Glendale in California when officers, responding to a domestic call, mistakenly identified a man as the suspect.

Officers had been alerted to a woman’s claim of being threatened by a man with a gun, but by the time authorities arrived, the man had fled the scene. They later spotted a vehicle matching the description and found a man nearby who they believed to be the suspect.

When the officers ordered the man to raise his hands, he initially complied. However, he then lowered his hands and reached for something, prompting one officer to open fire. The man, a 46-year-old from Tucson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later confirmed that the true domestic suspect, a 23-year-old from Glendale, was located in the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigations revealed no connection between the deceased man and the suspect in the domestic dispute.

The officers involved in the incident were wearing body cameras, and the investigation is ongoing.
