Three individuals have tragically lost their lives after being shot by police officers in Acherensua, located in the Ahafo Region.

The victims were part of a group of eight suspected illegal miners (galamsey operators) attempting to mine at the Newmont Ahafo South site.

The incident unfolded around 7:00 PM on Wednesday when the group tried to flee from approaching police officers.

The police pursued them and fired indiscriminately, resulting in three fatalities. Five others were injured by gunfire and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the St. Elizabeth Hospital morgue. In response to the deaths, outraged youth from Acherensua have staged protests, blocking major roads and demanding justice for the victims.
