West Ham United have dismissed manager Julen Lopetegui after a disappointing six months at the helm.

The 58-year-old Spaniard, who succeeded David Moyes in May, officially took charge on July 1. Despite high expectations, Lopetegui’s tenure saw the Hammers secure only six wins in the Premier League, culminating in a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

This loss, which marked their ninth of the season, left West Ham in 14th place, just seven points clear of the relegation zone.

The club has reportedly entered discussions with former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter to take over, with the possibility of a short-term contract being considered.

A statement from West Ham read: “The first half of the 2024/25 season has not aligned with the club’s ambitions, and the club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives.”

In addition to Lopetegui’s departure, the club has also parted ways with several members of his backroom staff, including assistant coach Pablo Sanz, head of performance Oscar Caro, head analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, fitness coach Borja De Alba, and technical coach Edu Rubio.
