- Lawsuit filed by NDC's Henry Boakye-Yiadom challenges the EC's declaration of Kumi as winner
- Court ruling temporarily blocks Kumi’s recognition as Akwatia MP-elect until further notice
The Koforidua High Court has issued an interim injunction preventing Ernest Kumi from taking the oath as the Member of Parliament-elect for Akwatia.
This decision follows a legal challenge filed by Henry Boakye-Yiadom, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, against the Electoral Commission (EC), Kumi, and the Clerk to Parliament.
The lawsuit aims to suspend Kumi’s swearing-in pending the outcome of the case.
The Akwatia seat, one of several contested, was re-collated and declared by the EC at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra. The final results showed Kumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) winning with 19,269 votes, while Boakye-Yiadom of the NDC secured 17,206 votes.
After reviewing the case, the court granted the interim injunction, temporarily blocking Kumi from being recognized as the MP-elect for Akwatia until further proceedings.
