President Akufo-Addo and Others Extend Congratulations to Mahama

Congratulatory messages continue to pour in from across the world following John Dramani Mahama’s declaration as Ghana’s President-elect after the December 7 general election.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo congratulated Mahama on his decisive victory in the presidential race.

In a statement released by the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, Eugene Arhin, Akufo-Addo expressed his commitment to a smooth transition of power, set for January 7, 2025.

He also extended his congratulations to the Electoral Commission (EC) and Ghanaians for conducting a successful election.

Akufo-Addo has invited Mahama to a meeting at the Jubilee House on December 11 to initiate the transition process.

The President reaffirmed his dedication to good governance principles and a peaceful transfer of power, which will strengthen Ghana’s standing as a model of democracy in Africa.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Bagbin, also congratulated Mahama, noting in a Facebook post, “Ghanaians have courageously reset the presidency to reset the nation.” He wished Mahama strength during the challenging times ahead and expressed his confidence in God’s guidance.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan sent her heartfelt congratulations via X, stating she looked forward to strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Tanzania for the benefit of their people.

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, congratulated Mahama on his remarkable political comeback, highlighting his victory margin of over 1.6 million votes.

Ablakwa expressed confidence that Mahama’s government would be transformative and committed to accountability through the “Operation-Recover-All-Loot” initiative.

The United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), led by Special Representative Leonardo Santos Simão, praised Ghana for holding peaceful and orderly elections. Simão commended all stakeholders for their commitment to peace and democracy and recognized Mahama’s victory as another step towards consolidating Ghana’s democratic achievements.

The Pan African Parliament (PAP) also congratulated Mahama on his victory. In a statement, PAP acknowledged Mahama’s distinguished history with the continental body and the trust the Ghanaian people have placed in him for a second term. The PAP also lauded Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for conceding defeat gracefully, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to democracy. The PAP expressed its commitment to deepening relations with Ghana under Mahama’s leadership.

As Mahama prepares to take office again, these congratulatory messages reflect the high hopes for his leadership and Ghana’s continued role as a beacon of democracy on the African continent.
