Ghana’s Economy Could Have Been Worse Under NDC Rule – Kusi Boafo Responds to Bawumia’s Critics

Kusi Boafo criticizes the NDC for lack of socio-economic policies and labels Mahama’s leadership as inconsistent and wasteful

Story Highlights
  • Kusi Boafo claims the NDC’s approach lacks vision, modern policies, and actionable reforms
  • He alleges $1.2 billion was wasted on projects like mobile money interoperability under NDC
  • He criticizes Mahama for opposing Free SHS initially, then falsely taking credit for its implementation

Thomas Kusi Boafo, Chief Executive Officer for Public Sector Reforms at the Office of the President, claims Ghana’s economy would have suffered severe setbacks if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been in power.

Kusi Boafo’s statement addresses critics of the NPP Presidential candidate, Dr. Bawumia, who question his reputation as an “economic messiah,” citing his inability to stabilize Ghana’s economy.

Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen morning show on Lawson TV/Radio, Kusi Boafo criticized NDC’s economic strategies, asserting that they have never implemented significant socio-economic reforms.

He attributed their most notable achievements to the establishment of the District Assembly and GETFund projects under the late Jerry John Rawlings.

He accused the NDC of outdated approaches to governance, saying, “They enter politics with aggression, but modern politics is now driven by vision, policies, and visible projects you can showcase on social media.”

Highlighting inefficiencies, he claimed, “Under the NDC, Ghana’s oil was literally measured with bamboo sticks. They signed a $1.2 billion contract for mobile money interoperability, but the NPP implemented it for under $5 million.”

Kusi Boafo also dismissed claims that former President John Mahama initiated Free SHS, labeling him a “flip-flop” leader who opposed the policy before embracing it.
