Dr. Prempeh Highlights Commitment to Nursing Welfare and Key Healthcare Initiatives

Story Highlights

  • Agenda 111 promises improved healthcare facilities across the country
  • A vote for NPP ensures continued policies that benefit nursing and healthcare sectors

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate, has urged nursing students to back the NPP, highlighting the importance of their votes in ensuring vital initiatives like Agenda 111, the nationwide hospital project, come to fruition.

Speaking at the Pantan Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Accra, Dr. Prempeh warned students of the risks posed by a potential return of former President John Dramani Mahama, claiming the previous NDC administration mishandled key issues affecting nursing trainees.

He pointed to the NPP’s reinstatement of trainee allowances as evidence of their dedication to the welfare of nursing students, contrasting it with the NDC’s previous cuts that created significant difficulties during Mahama’s time in office.

According to Dr. Prempeh, the upcoming election is a pivotal choice between the stability provided by NPP policies and the uncertainty associated with Mahama’s leadership.

“Just like their peers at Korle Bu, they understand the dangers of reverting to a leader who eliminated their allowances and pledged never to restore them, even if it jeopardized his presidency,” he stated.

Dr. Prempeh emphasized that the 2024 elections are crucial for securing a brighter future for Ghana, urging students to trust Dr. Bawumia, who will be accountable for his actions after four years. In contrast, he warned that Mahama could cut allowances again and implement stricter policies without facing repercussions.

He also criticized the NDC for their management of funds for nursing institutions, asserting that the NPP inherited a two-year backlog in feeding grant payments from the previous administration, attributing these issues to NDC “incompetence” in handling essential services.

The event also featured remarks from Madina’s NPP parliamentary candidate, Robert Lamptey, and Municipal Chief Executive Jennifer Dede Adjabeng, both reinforcing Dr. Prempeh’s message and encouraging students to unite behind the NPP for the continued support of the nursing community and broader healthcare improvements in Ghana.
