Nsoatreman FC Pulls Out of 2024/25 Ghana Premier League Over Safety Concerns

Club cites security fears following violent incidents involving Asante Kotoko and Samatex FC

Nsoatreman FC has officially withdrawn from the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League and all competitions organized by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), citing concerns over the security and safety of their players.

In a statement released on Friday, March 14, and signed by club president Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, the club explained that recent violent incidents had left them with no choice but to prioritize the welfare of their players.

“We write to respectfully withdraw from the ongoing Ghana Premier League and any other competitions organized by the GHANA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION due to concerns over the security and safety of our players,” the statement read.

The decision follows violent incidents during their recent matches against Asante Kotoko and Samatex FC, which the club had officially reported to the GFA.

“In light of this, we can no longer guarantee the safety of our players. Therefore, the management and board of directors are left with no choice but to prioritize the security of our team by withdrawing from the league,” the statement added.

The club also apologized for any inconvenience caused and expressed gratitude to league officials for their understanding.

This development comes in the wake of a tragic incident during Nsoatreman’s Matchday 19 fixture against Asante Kotoko at Nana Kronmansah Park, where a Kotoko supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, was fatally stabbed by unknown assailants. He was laid to rest on March 6 following a funeral service at Heroes Park, Baba Yara Stadium.

The GFA has yet to respond to Nsoatreman’s request. If approved, the league will continue with 17 teams instead of 18 for the remaining 14 matches.
