UG Suspends Senior Lecturer Over Sexual Harassment Allegations
Dr. Sampson Obed Appiah faces a two-semester suspension, mandatory training, and promotion restrictions.

The University of Ghana has suspended Dr. Sampson Obed Appiah, a senior lecturer in the Sociology Department, for two semesters following findings of sexual harassment.
A statement signed by the University’s Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, on March 12, 2025, confirmed that Dr. Appiah was found guilty of misconduct, breaching Section 1.1(A) of the Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy and Section 10.0 of the Academic Staff Code of Conduct.
As part of his sanctions, he must issue a formal written apology to the complainant, refrain from seeking promotion for a year after his suspension, and undergo mandatory training on sexual harassment and misconduct under the university’s Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee.
Dr. Appiah’s suspension comes alongside disciplinary action against 16 students penalized for various misconduct offenses. The university has urged its community members to uphold institutional regulations and maintain ethical conduct.
