The 68th Independence Day celebrations will cost only a fraction of last year’s budget, according to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communication.
This year’s event, set for March 6 at Jubilee House, has been significantly scaled down as part of the government’s efforts to cut costs while maintaining the significance of the occasion.
“In previous years, nearly 3,600 personnel and thousands of children participated. Now, the number has been reduced to just over 500, including security personnel and performing schoolchildren,” Kwakye Ofosu revealed.
He disclosed that last year’s celebration in Koforidua cost GH₵15 million, but this year’s event will be just a tenth of that amount.
Despite the budget cuts, he assured that the essence of the celebrations remains intact, emphasizing that President Mahama is committed to honoring the day in a financially responsible manner.
