The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a special passport center dedicated to Hajj applicants, with expedited passport processing available at a subsidized cost of GH¢500.
The initiative aims to streamline and expedite passport acquisition for Ghanaian pilgrims preparing for the 2025 Hajj.
The special passport center will operate from March 4 to March 13, 2025, at the Hajj Village.
Minister Ablakwa emphasized the government’s commitment to improving access to essential services, stating, “We are not oblivious of the fact that for many, securing travel documents promptly has been a major challenge. To address this, our ministry has set up this special passport centre, operational from March 4 to March 13, 2025, exclusively to serve Hajj applicants.”
He highlighted President John Dramani Mahama’s dedication to providing timely and efficient government services to all Ghanaians.
The cost of expedited passport processing has been reduced from the usual GH¢700 to GH¢500 for a 32-page passport, which will be processed within three days.
To ensure accessibility beyond Accra, the Ministry is also establishing dedicated kiosks at regional passport application centers. “To extend this service to as many people as possible, we are also setting up dedicated kiosks at various regional passport application centres, ensuring that applicants outside Accra can also benefit from this initiative,” Ablakwa stated.
The Muslim community has welcomed the initiative, praising the government’s efforts to facilitate travel preparations for Hajj pilgrims.
