Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has admitted to authorizing the arrest of former Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Board Chairman, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi.
The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) detained Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi on February 23, 2025, at Kawukudi, near Nima in the Greater Accra Region, as part of an ongoing investigation into financial transactions during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
His lawyer, Ken Kuranchie, recounted that a group of officers arrived in three pickups at the professor’s residence, informing him that he was needed at the NIB. He willingly accompanied them to the agency’s headquarters before being transferred to their Kawukudi offices.
During a media interview on March 3, 2025, Dr. Ayine confirmed his directive, stating, “Yes, I did.” He further disclosed that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi admitted to a $2 million payment being made without any work being done.
“We are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the payment and identifying all individuals involved,” Dr. Ayine emphasized.
