President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that climate change continues to be a significant and urgent challenge for Ghana.

In his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of his second term, delivered on Thursday, 27th February, Mahama addressed the growing environmental concerns facing the country, stressing the need for immediate and coordinated action to combat the effects of climate change.

“Climate change is not just a global issue; it is a pressing concern for us here in Ghana. Our environment, our livelihoods, and our future are at stake,” President Mahama declared.

He pointed out that Ghana has already begun to experience the adverse impacts of climate change, such as extreme weather events, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and rising temperatures, all of which pose threats to agriculture, water resources, and the overall economy.

Mahama assured Ghanaians that his administration would prioritize environmental sustainability and work with international partners to address climate change through strategic policies and initiatives.

“We must take bold steps to protect our environment for future generations. My government is committed to implementing policies that promote renewable energy, forest preservation, and sustainable agricultural practices,” Mahama stated.

He also called for greater awareness and collaboration between government, businesses, and the public to create a resilient nation that can effectively adapt to and mitigate the challenges posed by climate change.
