President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to significantly reduce the number of presidential staffers in his administration.

In his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of his second term on Thursday, 27th February, delivered in Parliament, Mahama underscored the importance of a streamlined government that prioritizes the effective use of public resources.

He pointed out that previous administrations had seen a significant rise in the number of staff at the presidency, leading to unnecessary financial burdens.

“We cannot continue to run a government where the cost of administration exceeds the benefits to the people. My government will take decisive steps to reduce the number of presidential staffers to enhance efficiency and accountability,” Mahama asserted.

The president further clarified that this reduction would not hinder the effectiveness of governance but would rather improve productivity.

“A smaller, more competent team is what we need to drive our development agenda. We must reduce bureaucracy and focus on delivering results that truly benefit the people of Ghana,” Mahama concluded.
