Afenyo-Markin Wanted Ghanaians to Know Srem-Sai Better – Suame MP Explains Dance Request
Suame MP John Darko explains that the Minority Leader’s controversial request during vetting was intended to help Ghanaians connect with the nominee on a cultural and personal level, not as mere entertainment.

- Afenyo-Markin’s request was to understand Srem-Sai’s background beyond his legal qualifications
- John Darko argues the dance request was about identity, not entertainment
- The request led to a heated exchange, with the Chairman ruling it inappropriate
Suame MP John Darko has defended Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s request for Deputy Attorney General and Justice Minister-designate, Justice Srem-Sai, to perform a cultural dance during his vetting.
According to Darko, the request was not frivolous but an effort to connect with the nominee on a personal level and help Ghanaians learn more about him. The vetting session on February 26, 2025, took a dramatic turn when Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor overruled Afenyo-Markin’s request, calling it inappropriate, which led to a heated exchange.
Speaking in an interview, Darko justified Afenyo-Markin’s approach, emphasizing that vetting is not just about legal credentials but also about understanding a nominee’s background and personality.
He argued that cultural appreciation is a vital part of the process, stating that the request was a means for Ghanaians to become familiar with Srem-Sai beyond his name and professional qualifications.
