The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has clarified that EC officials, including the chairperson and deputies, do not attend swearing-in ceremonies unless they receive a formal invitation.
Speaking at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on February 26, she revealed that the commission was not invited to President John Dramani Mahama’s swearing-in or any ministerial inaugurations.
Her remarks came in response to questions about her absence at the event, which took place on January 7, 2025, at Black Star Square, marking the start of Mahama’s second term. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, political leaders, and citizens.
Jean Mensa emphasized that the commission’s absence was in line with its longstanding policy, stating: “We do not attend swearing-in ceremonies unless invited, and we have never received an invitation.”
