Actor Mikki Osei Berko, known as Dada Boat, believes Ghana’s movie industry is not dead, but rather in a “coma,” requiring urgent intervention to revive its vibrancy.
In an interview, Berko asserted that the industry is struggling and needs “medication” in the form of effective policies and training.
He emphasized the crucial role of government involvement in addressing the industry’s challenges, highlighting its potential contribution to the national economy.
“Government should get involved because it’s an important part of the economy we cannot underestimate,” he stated. “When policy comes into being, it means that training and the others follow.”
Berko identified the prevalence of foreign content on Ghanaian media channels as a major obstacle to the industry’s growth.
He threatened a one-man demonstration if the situation is not addressed, arguing that it is “killing our industry and economy.”
He suggested that television stations should be mandated through legislative instruments (L.I) to prioritize local content.
