Concerned newly posted staff of the Ghana Education Service have made an emotional appeal to President John Mahama, urging him to rescind the recent directive revoking certain teaching and non-teaching appointments after the 2024 elections.

On February 17, 2025, the Ghana Education Service (GES) announced the immediate cancellation of appointments for staff who have not yet been placed on the government payroll. The directive, which takes effect immediately, was issued following an order from the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.

Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio, the affected teachers pleaded for reconsideration, emphasizing that their plight is not political.

“This is not about politics. We are ordinary Ghanaians who were legally employed as teachers. We beg President Mahama to reconsider this decision,” they stated.

The teachers highlighted the severe impact of the directive, explaining that many of them have relocated and rented rooms in their assigned areas, making the situation unbearable.

“We are pleading with President Mahama and the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu. Some of us are family heads, and this decision is putting our livelihoods at risk. Please, we beg them,” they lamented.

The affected teachers remain hopeful that their appeal will be heard and that the government will take steps to address their concerns.
