The Majority Leader, Mr. Mahama Ayariga, has defended the Minister for Communication, Innovation, and Digital Technology, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, stating that he has done nothing wrong in directing the Acting Director of the National Communications Authority (NCA) to shut down certain media houses two weeks ago.

According to Mr. Ayariga, the minister’s directive was aimed at enforcing regulations requiring radio stations to obtain proper frequency authorization.

He emphasized that any media house operating without the necessary license would continue to face closure.

He further dismissed calls by the Minority Chief Whip, Mr. Frank Annor Dompreh, for Parliament to summon the minister over the matter. Mr. Ayariga maintained that there was no need for such an inquiry since the minister acted within the law.

Earlier, Mr. Frank Annor Dompreh had urged Parliament to ensure Mr. Samuel Nartey George appears before the House to justify his actions, arguing that the minister had no authority to order the closures.

The debate was triggered by a statement from the MP for Mpraeso, Mr. Davis Ansah Opoku, who strongly condemned the minister’s actions on the parliamentary floor.
