Ghana Card for Free! NIA Rolls Out Free Issuance at District Offices
Ghanaians can now access free first-time Ghana Card issuance at 276 district offices, while Premium Centres attract approved service fees

- Free first-time issuance available at 276 district offices
- Premium Centres charge GH₵310.00 for first issuance
- Card replacements and updates attract varying fees
The National Identification Authority (NIA) is reminding Ghanaians that first-time issuance of the Ghana Card remains free at all 276 Operational District Offices across the country.
However, the authority has introduced fees for first-time issuance at its Premium Centres, following approval by the Parliament of Ghana in 2023.
This initiative aims to streamline the registration process while ensuring clarity on service fees. The Ghana Card serves as a vital national ID, granting access to government services and other essential activities.
According to the NIA, Premium Centre fees include:
🔹 GH₵310.00 for first-time issuance
🔹 GH₵125.00 for card replacement
🔹 GH₵420.00 for record updates with card replacement
Additionally, nationality updates cost GH₵70.00, while record updates are free at district offices but cost GH₵310.00 at Premium Centres.
The NIA urges citizens to take advantage of the free issuance at district offices to avoid unnecessary costs.
