Mahama Eyes Foreign Investments as Key to Job Creation
President reaffirms commitment to forging global partnerships to drive economic growth and create jobs for Ghana’s youth

- Mahama seeks to attract more British and international investors to boost job creation
- Prioritizing foreign partnerships due to limited access to international credit markets
- Addressing Ghana’s rising unemployment crisis through sustainable investment inflows
President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to attracting increased foreign investments as a key strategy to combat Ghana’s unemployment crisis and create sustainable job opportunities for the country’s growing youth population.
During a meeting with visiting UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, Mahama emphasized the importance of international partnerships in addressing Ghana’s economic challenges. He reiterated his government’s determination to strengthen ties with British investors to drive economic growth and employment creation.
Like many emerging economies, Ghana faces a rising demand for jobs, particularly among its youth. The country’s expanding population has intensified pressure on the government to develop sustainable employment solutions. The issue of unemployment played a significant role in the 2024 elections, highlighting the urgent need for policy interventions and investment inflows.
Acknowledging these concerns, Mahama assured that his administration is exploring all possible avenues to position Ghana as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment (FDI). Given economic challenges and restricted access to international credit markets, he stressed that foreign partnerships remain a top priority for economic recovery.
“We have a young, growing population, and one of the major issues that featured strongly in the election was jobs. Since we are shut out of international credit markets, our focus is on bringing in more foreign direct investments to create jobs for young people. With British companies historically investing in Ghana, we aim to attract more of them to partner with us in this objective,” Mahama stated.
