The proposed introduction of a shift system for passport registration in the Ashanti Region has been met with widespread approval from both passport applicants and local printing businesses.

The initiative, which will see Passport Office staff working day, night, and dawn shifts, is seen as a significant step towards streamlining the application process and easing pressure on applicants.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the plan, aligning it with the government’s 24-hour economy initiative. Residents of the Ashanti Region are eager for the plan to be implemented, believing it will alleviate the challenges they face in obtaining passports.

“I think it will help because there are people who work in the morning and close at night, so with that they can also come in for their application at night,” one applicant remarked, highlighting the convenience of extended hours.

Another applicant expressed optimism that the shift system would expedite processing times, potentially moving their March 13th application date forward.

Printing businesses located near the Passport Office are also enthusiastic about the proposed changes, anticipating an increase in business.

They have pledged their readiness to operate around the clock to support the new system. “If the office has decided to come on the night shift, we are also ready to help. It is currently just the morning and the afternoon shift, so if the night is implemented, it will help us a lot, and we will get more money,” a local printer stated.
