The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, has disclosed that former President Nana Akufo-Addo has instructed his former appointees to remain available for any accountability processes following the conclusion of his administration.

Speaking in an interview on February 18, Ahiagbah emphasized the NPP’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability.

“We [The NPP] Have No Record of Running Away; We’ll Be Here,” he declared firmly.

His remarks come in response to growing public calls for accountability as the country transitions into a new political administration.

A recent controversy involved former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who was declared a fugitive by the Office of the Special Prosecutor. However, his lawyers argued that he had informed the Chief of Staff about his medical condition and his intention to seek treatment abroad while remaining available when needed.

Addressing concerns about accountability, Ahiagbah defended the NPP’s record, contrasting it with the opposition.

“We’ll deal with the issues here. It was the NDC members who ran away. My own sister, Sedinam Tamakloe, disappeared. She was tried in absentia, but she ought to be here. Our party has no history of officials fleeing from accountability.”

Ahiagbah reiterated that the NPP remains focused on preparing for the 2028 elections while ensuring that its members answer any questions about their stewardship.

“Our preoccupation is how we get our party situated and contest the 2028 election. Matters to do with accountability—our people will be here to answer the questions,” he assured.

He further revealed Akufo-Addo’s directive, stating:

“There’s an effective commitment right from the former President himself. He has given a directive to ensure that our people are available to do that. I just don’t want to go into the details of what he said, but there is that disposition from the former President—an indication to stay and make sure that you account for [your stewardship].”

Defending the Akufo-Addo administration’s legacy, Ahiagbah expressed confidence that history will favorably judge their eight-year tenure.

“We came to do the best we can. And I believe that when the dust settles, Ghana will see what we have done for the past eight years,” he concluded.
