The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has announced a planned demonstration on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, to protest the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the withholding and cancellation of results for some students who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In an official notice to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, NUGS emphasized the need for fairness and transparency in WAEC’s examination and results management processes.

A statement issued on February 18 described WAEC’s actions as unjust, accusing the examination body of abusing its discretionary power.

“This protest is our way of standing against the unfair treatment of students whose futures are at risk due to WAEC’s actions. We demand immediate intervention to rectify this issue and ensure that all affected students are treated justly,” NUGS stated.

The union urged students, parents, and all concerned stakeholders to rally behind the cause, condemning WAEC’s handling of the results as both unjust and detrimental to students’ educational prospects.

They further noted that even students whose results have been released faced admission challenges due to delays, as most public tertiary institutions had already closed their admission processes.

Through this demonstration, NUGS aims to push WAEC and relevant authorities to swiftly address the grievances and prevent similar incidents in the future.
