- Mahama stresses that reparations should include restitution
- He highlights the need for expanded education, cultural reclamation, and equal global representation
- He urges truth-telling and responsibility for past injustices against Africans and their descendants
At the 38th African Union (AU) Assembly, President John Dramani Mahama made a compelling case for reparatory justice, emphasizing its role in restoring dignity, rights, and well-being for Africans and people of African descent.
Speaking on Saturday, February 15, 2025, Mahama aligned his message with the AU’s 2025 theme on reparations for historical injustices. He stressed that reparations go beyond financial compensation, encompassing restitution, rehabilitation, and guarantees of non-repetition.
“Reparations are about truth-telling, historical accountability, and ensuring justice for those marginalized for centuries,” he noted.
He further called for broader initiatives, including expanding educational access, reclaiming cultural heritage, and amplifying African voices on the global stage.
